At Young World we provide a healthy range of meals and snacks for your child during their day at the centre. A balanced diet is vital for growing children’s bodies and minds and we work alongside the healthy heart foundation to create a heart- healthy environment in our early learning service. We have received the Rito (founding) award which is the first step in the Healthy Heart Award Journey and are now working towards the Whānau (Strengthening) Award.
We are a vegetarian centre with vegan food options. We have an in-house cook who prepares fresh nutritious whole food each day. We firmly believe in providing the best nutrition for our children and to achieve that all our meals including baked food are prepared using only ghee (clarified butter), pure butter and olive oil. No seed oils are used. For morning tea, freshly ground chia and linseeds are sprinkled on the porridge/weetbix along with dates to sweeten it. Our baking is refined sugar-free and is only sweetened with real fruits.
Our curriculum incorporates different experiences such as gardening seasonal vegetables, preparing afternoon tea every Friday along with the kaiako, exploring different food groups through pretend play, books and puzzles. The conversations that arise from these experiences are then used to spark children’s curiosity and provide them with opportunities to view food in a positive light and to understand that food nourishes our minds and our bodies.
